The job of the County Commissioners is often times very complicated. There are numerous statutory and regulatory issues which come up when dealing with the budget, land use and maintenance of county facilities.

Welcome, and thank you for visiting my campaign website! Over the course of the next several months, I hope to meet as many of you, the residents and taxpayers of El Paso County as I possibly can. In the meantime, I invite you to get to know me a little better through this website.

If you find something special, if you have a concern or if you think something might be missing, contact me and let me know. I hold an office that belongs completely to YOU! YOU are doing the hiring and I am here to answer your questions and let you know why I and so many others believe that I am the right person for this job and should continue serving you as your county commissioner!

I am a mother of 3 and a wife of 15 years. I have lived here in El Paso County for 23 years and have watched the population more than double in size. Standing on principle and rooted in deep constitutional and conservative beliefs, I have spent many years working hard within our community, fighting to promote limited, efficient government, accountability and personal responsibility among leaders, colleagues and friends. I will always continue to promote these principles while working diligently to manage reasonable and smart growth in our county and administer innovative, hassle-free county government policy so that our communities are safe and well maintained.

"I stand on my

own merit, with

the courage and

experience to be

highly effective

and to listen to

the people of this

district."

Amy Lathen

I have a tremendous amount of experience in our local Republican party. I have gained the respect and appreciation of numerous elected officials, community leaders and friends through my work, my dedication to honesty and integrity in all that I do and my pursuit of the truth. Because of the strong relationships I have forged with many leaders – my future colleagues - I stood ready to make a difference from the very beginning and I earned the support of the vacancy committee in January. I am now serving as your County Commissioner and I am seeking my first full term of office through our caucus/assembly process.

County government is an arm of the state. It works in part, with the legislature as it handles a wide variety of land use issues, plans for growth, administers the county's budget and sets, enforces or more importantly, eliminates regulations on the constituents of the county. I am uniquely positioned for these tasks not only because of my experience and abilities to intelligently discern the best course of action and my understanding of county government, but also because of my collaboration with county elected officials and the fact that I am beholden to no single person or entity. I stand on my own merit, with the courage and experience to be highly effective and to listen to the people of this district. I have proven my ability to persuade people on all sides to my beliefs in limited government, responsible planning and fiscal conservatism and I will continue to forge those relationships and leverage them to serve YOU, the taxpayer.

I believe that county government should:

• Uphold and defend the Constitution of the State of Colorado
• Provide for and support public safety
• Manage smart, big picture, long range planning (not only land use planning, but budget planning as well)
• Oversee a fiscally conservative and accountable budget
• Prioritize budget items in a priority based budgeting format
• Efficiently administer and maintain vital infrastructure
• Protect private property rights

County government should not:

• Waste taxpayer dollars
• Overburden businesses with regulation and taxes
• Grant privileges and advantages to entities because of the size of their pocketbooks
• Interfere or infringe on private property rights of individuals or businesses
• Be an obstacle to its constituents' rights to live free from government intrusion

You deserve someone to vote FOR, not against! You deserve leadership that will LISTEN to you, INSPIRE you, REPRESENT you and SERVE you - leadership that shares your American spirit. You deserve leadership that will respect you and that you can respect !

I am excited and honored to be your new County Commissioner here in our great District 2! Please read on and contact me to learn more. I am driven to serve in this role. I am passionate about my beliefs and have the background, tools and understanding to be highly effective. I have the confidence to lead, the experience to serve and the humility to listen.

I ask for your continued support and for your vote for County Commissioner , District 2.

Amy Lathen

I am running for County Commissioner because I believe that I best represent the ideals and views of the constituents of the 2nd Commissioner District. The good people of the 2nd CD believe that we can have a priority-driven, responsible county government that addresses the needs of the people without increasing taxes.
